Thirty-five people at one house number

Thirty-five people in this tree are born at Krivi Put 136. House numbers are how Frontier registers identify a family, and a settled household can hold one for a century.

Antonija is the woman the whole page hangs from: she married into the Papići of Senj in 1885, and she is Hedviga's grandmother.

They were Frontier households too, and nobody had noticed

The fuller of the two scans of that 1859 baptism carries a conditio column the other crop omits, and the word in it is Confiniar. — confiniarii, men of the Military Frontier.

Nor is it one household. On the same opening the Perpić, Tomljanović and Butković families are all entered the same way.

So Krivi Put was a Frontier village, exactly as Otočac was. This archive held the Bunjevac settlement and the Žubrinić confiniarii as two separate facts for weeks and never joined them. It came out of re-reading a document that had been filed as a duplicate.

And the page proves the village

Read the other entries on the same opening and the Bunjevac claim stops being an inference from place-names and becomes an observation. The surnames baptised at Krivi Put in the summer of 1859 are Perpić, Tomljanović, Blažević, Šojat, Pavelić, Vukelić, Butković — and Krmpotić, the clan the whole settlement is named for.

Every child is entered against a house number: N° 4, 14, 15, 18, 23, 41, 51, 54, 58, 61, 72, 79, 81, 82, 136. Three of this archive's own surnames are on one summer's page of one mountain parish.

Prpić or Perpić — a decision, written down

The tree writes it Prpic 83 times, Perpic 19, Perpić 16, Prpić 8, once as Perpich, and once — with admirable honesty — as «Papić or Perpic». Antonija is entered under both: «Perpić / Prpic».

What is not known, and what would answer it

1. Why Antonija is at Mirogoj. She died at Senj on 2 February 1935 and is buried at Mirogoj in Zagreb — the monumental cemetery, a long way from Krivi Put and a long way from Senj. Nothing in the record explains it, and it is the kind of thing a family knows and a register does not. Open questions →

2. Who held Krivi Put 136 before 1820. The house is the spine of this family and this archive has it for four generations. The Krivi Put baptisms run from 1847; anything earlier is at Senj or at Krmpote, and neither has been walked for this surname.

3. Whether Lucia Perpić, Antonija's mother, is kin to her husband. The 1885 marriage gives her maiden name as Perpić too. In a village of fifteen house numbers that is likely and unproved.

What supports it is that the same couple's Stephanus of 1861 IS in the tree READ FROM THE IMAGE 9 October 2026: Krivi Put births (DGS 5494757, waypoint 9R28-DP8) image 122 left-hand page, entry 51 of 1868 - born 22 April, baptised 23 April 1868, «Georgius Perpić, legit., Joannes Perpić et Lucia nata Perpić, Confiniarii», house «Krivi put N° 135» (the digits 135 were read at about four times the page's resolution and are clear). Joannes and Lucia, both Perpić, as at ahnentafel 7's baptism (1859) and Stephanus (1861), but the house is 135 where those two are at 136. One number apart, and the parents' names are the same pair: PROBABLE, not proved. The date agrees with the index.
