Krmpotić
A name that shares its stem with the villages above Senj and is written Krmpotich, Krampotich and Kermpotich by the clerks who recorded it. Seventeen readings from the Senj registers, nineteen people in the tree — and three St Salvator Krmpotići buried within nine years.
Thirteen people, and a name from the mountain
The tree holds nineteen Krmpotići, born 1799 to 1894. The surname shares its stem with Krmpote and Krmpotske Vodice, villages beside Smokvica Krmpotska, where the Blaževići came from. This archive has not established which word came from which, and one is not evidence of the other; a Krmpotić is not for that reason a man of Krmpote.
Two groups are well enough placed to describe. Veljun: Juko (1805–1880) and Ilija (1815) were born at Veljun and, with Ivka below, are entered as children of the same “Andrje or Dujo”. Separately Ivan (born at Veljun on 10 June 1890, died at Senj) married Paulina Boras; his parents are Juraj Krmpotić and Marija Pavelić, and the tree does not say how he relates to Juko and Ilija. The other is Antun Krmpotić of Krivi Put married Marija Prpić and had six children at Senj between 1881 and 1894 — Mile Vatroslav (born and dead in 1881), Anton Frane (1883, the same), Slavka Katarina (1885–1959), Marijan (1888–1912), Anton (1890–1934) and Leon Davorim (1894). Ivka Krmpotić (born at Krivi Put on 23 June 1799, died 1833) married Marko Šojat; her father is entered only as “Andrje or Dujo” — the tree could not choose, and neither can this page.
St Salvator
The Senj death register of the 1820s and 1830s is the record that notices them. Maria, daughter of Michael Krmpotić of St Salvator, died on 2 September 1825; Nicolaus Krmpotić of St Salvator, a soldier-subject of the Frontier, on 15 March 1831; Anna, born at St Salvator, in February 1834; and Helena Krmpotić of St Salvator, aged 17, married Petrus Tomaić, a soldier of Lukovo, on 4 February 1833. St Salvator is a place in the Senj parish (the register glosses it Sveti Spas). That the four belong to one family is likely and not proved: the register names a Michael as father of one and gives the others no father.
Michael Krmpotić, widower — twice
A Michael Krmpotić, widower of Senj, married a widow named Stanislava on 23 January 1822, and a Michael Krmpotić, widower of Senj, aged 54, married a widow, Antonia, on 18 May 1830 — 1822 and 1830. It may be one man married three times, or two men of one name. The registers do not say, and the age and the eight years are not enough to decide. The rows are kept separate.
Krmpote, named
What is not known, and what would answer it
1. Whether Antun Krmpotić's line reaches the Senj registers of the 1830s. His Krivi Put origin is in the tree; his baptism is not.
2. Whether the St Salvator Krmpotići are one family. The Senj baptisms for St Salvator would answer it.
3. How much of this is a pedigree. It is not one: it is a gathering of readings, kept so that the next person who finds a Krmpotić in a Senj book can see what is already on record.

Everyone of the name
All 36 people this archive holds of the name, oldest first, in the shape the front page uses — the couple in two columns with a birthplace beside each name, the children beneath them, brothers and sisters under whichever of the two they belong to. Oldest first, which is the only order a family has, and everything is shut until you open it. The rows marked parish register are people read off a page that the family tree has never had; they are not less proved, they are just not typed in.
