Given name at death

The tree saysJoannis Antić (Papa), died 27 February 1793, born 1739
The record saysAntonius Antich Martini, died 27 February 1793, aged about 54

Selce deaths 1790-1815, image 81 left page, house 34 as read: «Die 27a Februarii 793 Antonius Antich Martini annorum circiter 54». The day, month and age are the tree's and the given name is not: the register says Antonius, underlined, and Martini is not Papa. Three readings and none is chosen: the Karić tree has the right man and the wrong first name; it has the date and age from somewhere and attached them to a man it called Joannes; or this is a different Antich who died the same day at the same age. The entry is recorded as an Antich of the right age, NOT as a reading of ahnentafel 96. UPDATED 11 October 2026: the Selce marriage of his son Joannes (ahnentafel 48) to Martha Lončarić, 18 November 1798 (image 248 left), names the groom's parents as «Defunctorum Anto[nii] et Ursulae Antich» — Antonius, with Ursula (ahnentafel 97). Two independent register entries now give Antonius and none gives Joannis; the tree's «Joannis» is very probably a transcription of the son's name. Read it →

Which isthe genitive of Joannes

These registers are narrative Latin. A priest writing baptizavi Josephum — “I baptised Josephus” — is writing a case ending, and filius Josephi is “son of Josephus”. Transcribed literally, the ending becomes the name. In life this person was Joannes, or its Croatian form. All forty of them →

The mark describes the person, not the link. Of the 2 relatives drawn here, 2 have a document of their own in this archive — but that is not the same as a document tying them to this person. This archive holds no separate proof for most parent–child links; where it does, the note above this chart says so in words.

1798 marriage-of-child named as the groom's late father, written «Anto[nii]» - agrees with the 1793 death entry's Antonius and not with the tree's Joannis notes/selce-marriage-1798-antic-loncaric.md

Ahnentafel 96 — generation 7 of Hedviga's descent. Every person's father is twice their own number and their mother twice plus one, so this person's parents are 192 and 193.

The register spells this surname more than one way, and the search folds the forms together — so Xubrinich and Žubrinić, Joannis and Ivan, find each other.

Others of the same name

These parishes repeat their names relentlessly — 94 Marijas and 88 Ivans in this archive alone. These are different people, kept apart on purpose rather than merged into one. Merging on a name is exactly how this tree came to hold a man born after his own granddaughter.
