Caetano Bacchi

| The record says | A real Karlobag baptism of that date, but of a different man |
The Karlobag register of 12 January 1779 does record a Caetanus Antonius Bacchi, son of Angelo and Catharina, with a Captain as godfather and the wife of Dominus Georgius Uroda as godmother. But ahn 214's daughter Oliva Andreana died in 1795 and her daughter Oliva Maria Smojver was born 11 March 1781 — two years after this baptism. Two years cannot hold two generations. The right Caetano Bacchi belongs around 1730–1745, and this entry belongs to someone else of the name. A second entry fixes the elder Caetanus's death earlier: on 20 October 1760 (Karlobag marriages, image 293 left) Paulus Perpich married «Annam viduam Caetani Bachi», so a Caetanus Bacchi was dead before then — probably the same man, not proved. The FamilySearch index itself spells the 1779 child «Caetani Antonÿ Bechi» (parents Angelo Bechi and Catharina), a different surname from Bacchi, which is a second reason not to treat him as the Bacchi line. A third source puts him in the 1750s: the Karlobag baptism book names a «Caietan Bachi» as sponsor, with his wife Anna, in March 1753 (and again in May 1753 and October 1755) and records a son Silvester, «sina Gajetana y Anne Bachi», in early January 1754 — an adult married man in 1753, which is another reason the child baptised in 1779 cannot be him. The marriage book then gives his own marriage: 4 February 1753, «Cajetanum Bachi et Annam filiam defuncti Alexii [Lukatelli]» (image 287 right), so the elder Caetanus married in 1753 and cannot have been born in 1779. ADDED 11 October 2026: the 1779 baptism has been re-read and kept as a snapshot (image 210: «Caetani Antonij», son of Angelo and Catharina Bachi, godparents the Captain Joannes Jankovich and «Dna Maria uxor Dni Georgij Uroda»), so the child and his household are on record apart from the elder Caetanus. And a CANDIDATE for the elder Caetanus has turned up at Pag: a Caietanus Antonius Gregorius Bachi, baptised there on 14 March 1728, son of Dno Angelo Bachi, patrician, and Dna Oliva — a snapshot is kept and the match is drawn as an unproved join on /lines/. Nothing in any Karlobag entry names the elder Caetanus's father or town (the 1753 marriage was re-read for it), so Angelo and Catharina of 1779 are still not his parents on this evidence. Read it →

| The record says | Karlobag marriages image 306 right, 2 May 1774: «Olivae filiae defuncti Caetani Bacchi» — her father already dead in 1774 |
The marriage of ahnentafel 106 and 107 on 2 May 1774 calls the bride Oliva «daughter of the late Caetanus Bacchi». A man born in January 1779 cannot have fathered a bride of 1774 or been dead by then, so the tree's Caetano Bacchi of 1779 is a different, later man (probably the child of the 1779 baptism in the Karlobag index) and has been attached to the wrong place in the line. His supposed parents, Angelo Bacchi and Catharina (ahnentafel 428 and 429), rest on that baptism alone and should be treated as not known. The elder Caetanus Bacchi (the real ahnentafel 214) was an adult by about 1750 and dead by 2 May 1774; no document read gives his birth, his wife, or his parents. Not changed in the tree. The marriage book then gives his own marriage: 4 February 1753, «Cajetanum Bachi et Annam filiam defuncti Alexii [Lukatelli]» (image 287 right), so the elder Caetanus married in 1753 and cannot have been born in 1779. The mark describes the person, not the link. Of the 3 relatives drawn here, 2 have a document of their own in this archive — but that is not the same as a document tying them to this person. This archive holds no separate proof for most parent–child links; where it does, the note above this chart says so in words.

Disputed
this archive has shown something recorded about them to be wrong.
1 image is attached to this person , of which 1 is a document rather than a photograph.
2 corrections and notes have been recorded against this page — set out above, and listed on What changed.
Where this sits on the line
Ahnentafel 214 — generation 8 of Hedviga's descent. Every person's father is twice their own number and their mother twice plus one, so this person's parents are 428 and 429.
The register spells this surname more than one way, and the search folds the forms together — so Xubrinich and Žubrinić, Joannis and Ivan, find each other.
