Connected to this family only through a sorting label
Every route from Hedviga to this person passes through a sorting label — a working note sitting where an ancestor should be. This is not a claim that the person is invented; the register entries behind them are real. It is a statement about the join. Why this matters →
He emigrated to New York in 1911 — the tree simply stopped
| The tree says | Matthaus (Mate) Žubrinić, born 29 December 1867 at Prozor 50, son of Michael Žubrinić and Marija Rogić. No death, no emigration, nothing after his birth |
|---|---|
| The record says | New York passenger list, 1911: Mate Zubrinic, aged 43, residence “Prozon”, sailed on the Saint Louis from Southampton |
Found on FindMyPast during a two-day trial, 13 September 2026. The manifest gives his residence as Prozor, his age as 43 — which a man born 29 December 1867 is through most of 1911 — his nationality as Croatian, and the wife he left behind as Roza. Surname, village, age and year all agree, and Prozor is a very small place: this archive knows eleven Žubrinići there, all in houses 46 and 50. He was met in New York by his nephew, Stipan Kostelac — and Kostelac marries into this Žubrinić household six times. The tree does hold a Stipan Kostelac married to a Bare Žubrinić, but that man has children born in 1849 and would be ninety in 1911; the New York Stipan is far more likely a grandson of the same name. Nothing in the tree has been edited. This is recorded as what a document says about a man whose record here previously ended at his birth. Family
The mark describes the person, not the link. Of the 8 relatives drawn here, 3 have a document of their own in this archive — but that is not the same as a document tying them to this person. This archive holds no separate proof for most parent–child links; where it does, the note above this chart says so in words.

Where this sits in the family
Not on the direct line. They are published because they belong to one of the eight surnames this archive follows.
The register spells this surname more than one way, and the search folds the forms together — so Xubrinich and Žubrinić, Joannis and Ivan, find each other.
