Arriveer uit Mecklenburg, Duitsland, in die Kaap gedurende 1750 as soldaat in diens van Die Verenigde Oos-Indiese Kompanjie. Hy neem sy ontslag in 1759 en word vermoedelik ‘n boer en ‘n burger van Stellenbosch. Ongelukkig is daar tot dusvêr nog geen familie geskiedenis van sy lewe en voorouers in Duitsland opgespoor nie. Op 19/8/1759 is hy getroud met Martha Margaretha Esterhuysen. Volgens oorlewering was sy fisies ‘n besondere sterk vrou en kon die soldertrap uitstap met ‘n mudsak koring op haar rug. DJ is oorlede op 35 jarige ouderdom op 29/11/1763, bietjie meer as vier jaar na sy troue. Drie kinders is uit hierdie huwelik gebore, waarvan Christoffel Andreas, die oudste seun, ons geslag voortsit. Die jongste kind, ‘n seun, is na sy dood gebore. Die Esterhuyzens het vir vier geslagte ( 1705 - 1848 ) gewoon op die plaas met die eienaardige dubbelnaam " Onust en Harmonie" gelee aan die pad van Stellenbosch na Klapmuts ( Dagboek van Adam Tas pp184/186 )
